Thursday Jul 01, 2021
Telstra's strategy to realise greater value from its infrastructure paid dividends this week when it sold 49% of its tower business for $2.8b to a consortium of wealth and super funds. We bring you what InfraCo CEO Brendon Riley and Telstra CEO Andy Penn had to say.
(5:01) We also revisit the Australasia Satellite Forum last week: in particular, a panel of operators asked what's hot in the enterprise market and whether there is still resistance to use of satellite there. Speakers include Optus' Nick Miller, Telstra's Sandeep Kumar, Speedcast's Hamish Lee, Av-Comm's Michael Cratt, ST Engineering iDirect's Michael Walshe and NBN Co's Jason Ashton.
(15.22) And we wrap up with a panel looking at the job being done by the Australia Space Agency and whether government is doing the right thing by the space sector. Featured are Sitael's Mark Ramsey, Symbios' George Dyke, Equatorial Launch Australia's Carley Scott, Asia Pacific Aerospace Consultants' Bill Barrett and Moonshot's Troy McCann.

In this edition of CommsDay Live we take an extended look at an issue many have put in the too hard basket: how to get OTTs to pay their share of the expensive broadband network investment which gets their offerings to the masses. Canopus Networks' Vijay Sivaraman and Kevin Bloch talk with Grahame Lynch about a problem that suddenly doesn't seem so insurmountable now that OTTs are compensating legacy media publishers on precisely the same "unequal bargaining power" grounds.
We also talk with the CommsDay editors Simon Dux and Rohan Pearce about the news of the week.
